Underfloor heating seems to be a mysterious industry, not always fully understood by the consumer. Few understand the technology, creating a lot of myths circulating about this form of home heating.
#warmupsa has compiled this list of myths aimed at enlightening you on the truth behind underfloor heating.
Myth #1 – Underfloor heating is expensive
While the initial cost to install underfloor heating could be slightly costly, the long-term savings will surprise you.
Take a look at the below examples. A 3000w oil fin heater in a 24sqm room will have an average running cost of R4.95 per hour. The same room can be warmed with only 2000w of underfloor heating at an average running cost of R3.30 per hour. If you add insulation under your floor heating and control the system with an intelligent thermostat you can save even more!
Myth #2 – Underfloor heating is dangerous
Underfloor heating has no hot, moving or visible parts – apart from the thermostat. The heating is placed UNDER your floor surface. This means that there is no risk of injury to children or the elderly.
You can continue your normal daily routine in the winter, and not have to worry that turning away for a second might cause your child to injure himself.
Not only are you safe from physical obstacles related to other forms of heating, you also don’t have to worry about your heating burning down the house like other heating forms have been known to do. #warmupsa underfloor heating comes with a multitude of safety features eliminating any risk of fire or electric shock.
Myth #3 – Underfloor heating is left on all the time
While #warmupsa underfloor heating products have been specifically manufactured to be left on continuously, safely and efficiently, it doesn’t mean that you should.
The quick response time of these products means it heats up very quickly, therefore, it only needs to run at the times you require heating. Of course, you can also control the heating system with an intelligent thermostat, which will monitor the air, or floor, temperature and automatically switch on the heating at the time you would require it. This way you can walk into a warm home after work and know that it is efficient and economical.
Myth #4 – You cannot install underfloor heating in an existing home
While some products are easier to install in a new building, before the floor is installed, it doesn’t mean an existing home should miss out on economical, radiant heating!
Some heating products go on top of the floor, under the floor covering, this means very easy installation – simply have the installer lift your floor surface and lay down the heating.
Fitting products into the actual subfloor in an existing home is a little more complex, but still possible. Your installer will cut into your subfloor, fit the product and screed over it. Now you can place down your floor covering again and enjoy your heating.
Myth #5 – Underfloor heating can’t be used under certain floor coverings like carpet or wood
The truth is, underfloor heating can be used under most floor coverings. While some may have to be specified differently than others, #warmupsa has created different heating products for all major floor coverings. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if you have tiles or carpets or wooden floors, you can still benefit from underfloor heating.
